Gary Zeff

I have been turning wood and building custom and reproduction furniture for over 32 years. In addition, I have written critical and informative articles for “American Woodturner”, “Fine Woodworking”, and”Better Homes & Gardens WOOD” magazines.  My work is sculptural rather than utilitarian and I enjoy incorporating other media like metal, paints, and patinas to complement the wood.  In addition, I also use carving, sandblasting, and woodburning as embellishments.

Working in both urban and exotic woods, I relish the process of analyzing each cut of raw wood to reveal its potential and showcase its natural beauty.  I often create an integrated base that elevates or suspends the piece.  “Raising the work off the table lends a sense of importance to the piece- much like a king’s throne or a holy altar is raised”.
