Annette Kennedy is a Fiber Artist creating Quilt Art and Botanically Dyed and Printed Silk Scarves.
Since 2003 Annette has been creating pictorial art quilts that incorporate hand dyed, painted and commercial fabrics, paint and thread, based on photographs she has taken. Her work focuses mainly on nature, including landscapes and flora, but also includes some architectural pieces.
Her art quilts are first created by fusing fabrics to a base fabric. Next she enhances the image with transparent and opaque textile paints to increase the visual depth and to add details. The stitching is then done to hold the top, batting and backing together and to add texture. The end product looks like a cross between a quilt and a painting. Her goal is to express her personal experience with a place or subject in a way that creates beauty, peacefulness and a sense of awe to those who view it.
Annette has won many local and national awards, including the Best Wall Quilt Purchase Award at a national show in Paducha, KY in 2009 with her quilt "Mountain Chapel" which is of the Saint Catherine Chapel at Camp Saint Malo in Allenspark, CO. That quilt is now part of the permanent collection of the National Quilt Museum. Annette has taught her techniques nationally and online for 10 years and now only teaches online so she has more time to do more of her own art.
Annette offers affordable reproductions of her art quilts, which she calls "Quilt ART IMages", in the form of note cards, magnets, coasters, trivets, paper, aluminum and canvas prints, which make great gifts for yourself and for others.
A more recent addition to Annette's art has been her "Nature ART Scarves" which are an exciting extension of her love for nature and gardening. The silk scarves are dyed with plant based natural dyes then botanically printed with plants and flowers that she's grown and gathered. Each scarf is unique. Scarves are available in different types of silk, weights and sizes.
